Please note that Bayfield’s beaches are maintained naturally to protect our delicate shoreline eco-system. This means that in many places the water’s edge might be a little rocky. The areas most popular beach location, Bayfield’s Main Beach, proudly boasts a Blue Flag status, drive up access, public washrooms and parking. Located next to the Marina, you can enjoy a stroll on the pier, a fresh water swim or just take in the sunshine on the large sandy beach! Located only a short walk from the Historic Village of Bayfield’s restaurants and boutiques, it’s a great option for those looking to enjoy a day on the shores of Lake Huron!
Take a 360 Tour of Bayfield’s Main Beach
Sometimes referred to as the Howard Street Beach, this beach is located just south of Bayfield’s Main Beach and is reached by way of a staircase with approximately 80 steps to the sandy beach. Bayfield’s South Beach provides views of Bayfield’s famous SHIPWRECK. Did you know there is a second shipwreck on this beach? SEE IF YOU CAN FIND IT!
If you’re looking to escape the crowds you might want to consider Black’s Point Beach (not surprisingly located at the end of Black’s Point Road, just south of Goderich). The lake is located at the end of a short, gently sloping trail that begins behind the Black’s Point Pavilion. While this beach is not as accessible as Bayfield’s Main Beach it is a great option for those looking for a quieter, natural beach atmosphere. Don’t be surprised if you bump into groups of birders or even the occasional horseback rider!
Located at the end of Pavilion Road, just south of Bayfield you will find, Houston Heights Beach. Ample parking, a large picnic pavilion (with washrooms), a woodlot and a small play area with swings for the kids can be found in this park like setting. This secluded location offers access by way of a staircase with approximately 85 steps down to the sandy shores. This location is great for families looking to escape the crowds.
The beach at St. Joseph’s is popular with local cottagers. It offers drive up access and limited parking. Natural and out of the way, it’s a great spot to relax and take in one of Lake Huron’s famous sunsets!
At the end of Sarara’s Road, on a bluff overlooking Lake Huron you will find breathtaking lake views. This beach offers parking and a lookout with but does not provide stairs or access to the shoreline.
