Myriads of people have dropped by for a night or two only to fall in love with Bayfield returning in later years to retire here.

In Bayfield you will find a flare for the finer things in life.

The combination of summer residents, retirees and those folks who grew up here and just never left; make for a unique blend of hospitality. The community’s historical roots run deep, yet there is also a flare for the finer things in life. Bayfield is a tiny, rural, cultural metropolis offering gourmet dining, art galleries, and cosmopolitan style-boutiques.

Residents also value the natural resources that Henry Wolsey Bayfield discovered almost two centuries ago.

The nautical surveyor who lent his name to the area saw the potential in our natural harbor and so did those pioneers that came after him. Today, Bayfield boasts the largest port for pleasure craft on the Canadian side of Lake Huron. Four marinas have a combined offering of more than 450 docking slips.

And then there is the beach, actually there are three. Yes, three sandy spots along the village’s lake front where sun-worshippers can gather to soak up some rays. Main Beach, is the most popular with its easy drive up access, but if you want to live like the locals do travel further down the shoreline to either Pioneer Park Beach or Howard Street Beach, just keep in mind that some effort is required to reach these hidden delights as they are only accessible by taking the stairs – about 80 of them.
